What sounds like a fair amnt to pay an Independent
shop to sell a motorcycle? It's a fairly well known
shop with a good service ctr and freeway frontage rd
visability. He asks for 10% of the sale. That seems a
little high. He takes care of the craigslist adds & so forth.
I just HATE dealing with the tire kickers and people wanting
to trade me jet-skis or other junk.
I've sold one car on ebay. It was an ok transaction but
MANY emails back & forth (& ph calls)
Look at it this way - They store your bike, deal with all the "tire kickers", deal with the buyer, the money issues and hand you a check. Their insurance should cover your bike when it's in their care and when it's being test driven by potential buyers.
With all this mind 10% does not seem out of line.
Put it on Craig's, state in your ad "No emails; phone calls only; cash only; no checks of any kind;test ride with cash in hand only".
10% is a bit much in this economy. You're selling a StreeGlide for 17K, you really wanna give a dealer $1700.00 to do something you could do yourself with a little effort? I would be willing to pay 5% if it weren't for Craig's.
10% is fair, just ask more than you need for it so once someone "makes an offer" you still get your money and the dealer gets his. Don't be surprised if the dealer gets some on both ends, everyone has to eat.

10% is well worth it. I've sold a few bikes and boats and unless you have nothing else gto do with your time the process is not easy. Boat brokers get 10-15% and boats cost alot more than motorcycles.
