I've always understood the same that dealers have no idea this far out. Maybe he's putting the bug in your ear so you don't wait and buy from him now, from what he has. The epa adds more and more restrictions so if that is the case it may??? hurt performance and you may be better off with an 07. Really it's just a guessing game at this point.
Don't know why they would go back to a catalytic converter. They dropped them on the California models a year ago.
But if I was in the market for a bike now? I'd buy a used carbureted one and spend the money I saved making it run way better than a new one.
There's not likely to be much difference between the 08 and the 07, except that maybe Harley will address the heat and tranny issues everybody complains about.
Incidently, it is already illegal (and has been for about 30 years) to change anything EPA related on a bike like exhaust, A/C, FI, etc. The 06 mufflers I have sitting in my shed say the right side is equipped with a cat. Hopefully, it will help reduce the amount of polution floating around in there.
Basically, anything harley does to appease the EPA can be undone, and there's nothing to indicate the aftermarket will draw the line at the 07 models and say "Sorry, can't help you, should've bought a year earlier."
