I'm thinking about converting my snowmobile trailer rated for 1500 lbs to use for my 04 heritage Good or bad idea? Has anyone done this with any success? It is a Karavan trailer, hardly used at all. I use it to store my sled every summer. Pros and cons please. Thanks. also any helpful ideas would be appreciated.
If it's a tilt model (which I believe Karavans are) then personally, I would think that it might not be the best way to go as far as loading & unloading. The pro would be that it has a wooden deck and would be pretty easy to mount a wheel chock, etc.
Thanks Black SG, You were right it is a tilt but I would not attempt loading it that way I will buy a ramp to get it on the trailer. I would also reinforce where I put the wheel lock with 1/4 in plate aluminum. It is 4x8. I think the wheel base will make it. I still have to measure it all out. thanks for the reply.
IMHO you would do a very good reinforcement by screwing down a 3/4"- 4x8 sheet of exterior grade plywood. Try to attach to edges and cross bracing.
Snowmobiles have a different footprint on the deck of the trailer and are supported across way more surface area and thereby waaaaaaay differently.
good luck in whatever ya'll choose to do.
I've got a tilt that I now use for hauling the dirt bikes.....
Yeah, do the ramp thing, the deck angle is tough even on the little bikes.....
My trailer has two holes for the ski bars. I used these to bolt down the wheel chocks.....
