Default Cam Change - Lifter Question

I'm doing a cam change in my 2011 Fat Boy. I intended to pull the cam assembly out while leaving the lifters in their bores. During the process, one of the lifters fell out. I'm not sure what direction it should go in now. I'm thinking it should go in the same direction. Are they marked? If so, I didn't see a directional marking.

Thanks for any input!

I would take a peak through the service manual to see if it says anything, I don't have one sitting here in front of me though. If there is no mention, they can probably go in either way, and I think I've been told that before. But I seem to remember that the little oil hole in the machined down part that rides in the bore always seems to face towards the engine.

Doesn't matter, but generally they are put in the same way as they come out. My holes were to the rear when I did mine in a previous bike. Good time to switch to the new Gaterman lifters

Yeah, they can only go in one of two ways and it doesn't look like it matters. It only says in the manual to install them with with the flats facing forward and rear. Well, duh. Can't really install them in the bores with the flats facing left and right unless you use a REALLY big hammer...

I know it's irrelevant to the OP's situation, but some lifters are directional. The Gatermans I have in my bike will only go in one way.

When I put mine back in I read some where the holes should point "inward" I assumed that meant towards the jugs
