I would second that. I'm 24 and everything I have I've worked for. I bought my first car with the money I saved from working with my uncles pressure washing shuttle busses since I was 13. My parents would help along the way when I needed it, but for the most part I paid for my own gas, insurance, and cell phone bill. I'm very thankful for the way they raised me because it really taught me to appreciate what I have and it also taught me to take care of my things. Other guys I grew up with that had everything handed to them always trashed it or beat the dog **** out of it. I wasn't their money what did they care. I can think Of one person really close to me since we were still in a stroller that has had everything handed to him, and still to this day doesn't have a job and has everything handed to him at the age of 24. He lives at home with his mom while she pays for his gas, insurance, phone bill, cigarettes and everything else while myself on the other hand has a wife, no kids (yet), own 2 cars outright (ones the wifes), have 2 harleys and a busted up metric and have a mortgage with nobody's help but my wife.

I would make sure your son knows what you are doing for him and how much it means to you to be able to do that. My old man had a 79 lowrider I wish he would have kept to pass down to me or my brother one day, but sold it a while back to fix the house. While I understand why he did it, I still wish he had kept it to hand off to one of us one day.

two of 3 ride my bikes. College boys both.

they paid me 1000 ea.
they cant sell it or trade it in.
they must insure it
they must send me the $ to register
they must pay all maint & inspection themselves.
they call call it theirs but I retain title to both bikes.

Sort of a loaner bike w deposit. I cant ride 5/6 bikes so it was an easy decision.

When they are ready to buy their own I return the 1000 and it comes home.

My daughter comes home tomorrow from her 4 years of service with the Marines and at that time my wife will hand over the keys to her 07 Sporster and then will transfer the title on Saturday, my wife recently bought a 2013 Softail Slim to replace her old bike, my daughter can't wait untill we all go riding, two of my other daughters have Harleys also (and their fiance also)

Now that will be a great homecoming gift! I'd say she's earned it. Very cool that all your daughters, and your wife, ride.
