Default Engine Issue

Last weekend while on a ride through some heavy stop and go traffic, my 2008 Ultra did something I have never experienced before. Riding 2 up, going up a mild grade, we seemed to hit every red light and spent a lot of time not moving. After a few miles of this, the bike went into a low power mode, the idle RPMs went to about 2000, and my engine light came on. I was able to make it to the shoulder so I then killed the engine and waited for a few minutes. When I restarted the bike, everything went back to normal, the engine light went away. Rode the rest of the day with no problems, but this did give me some concern for future long runs. Any input would be appreciated.

Possibly you were either in "limp mode" or the EITMS system activated due to heat. There's an explanation in the Owners Manual.
