On my way to Sturgis 2 years ago I stop in a 1 gas station town to fill up. Literally just 2 roads intersecting in the middle of town and that was it. I believe it was Wasta or Mission SD. (Pretty confident it was Mission. SD)
I get my gas, pull over to the curb and go inside to get something to drink and came out and started talking to 2 guys next to me.
One of the guys had locked his forks before going inside. (huh? what? why? here??).
He went to unlock the forks and it wouldn't unlock. Nothing, zero, zip. Stranded in a small Dakota town late in the afternoon on a Saturday and not going anywhere. We tried his buddy's key, my key, nothing. I offered them any tools I was carrying (and I carry a bunch on long trips) if they wanted to work on it and they declined. I left them there and headed on down the highway. I felt bad, but nothing I could do to help and I was on the clock on a run.
If anyone here on the forum is that guy, or was with, or knows that guy: How did it turn out? What did you finally do?
I looked at my log. It would have been August 6, 2011 and if memory serves me it was a Road King (but my memory doesn't always serve me).
Yeah, I've tried lubing it up twice so far, still no luck. I'll try again a couple more times before I take it in. I can't get it in til Saturday morning anyway due to my work schedule so hopefully I can free it up. @ skratch, that's what I'm going to do is have them order the parts and take it back when they come in. I just don't know what could go wrong having to ride the bike with the key in the fork lock. Thanks again guys.
