Rode up to Mendocino County for my friend's service on Sunday. Picked up a million little gnats riding past Clearlake. Beautiful ride but when I got back to Sactown it took me an hour to get the dead critters off the fairing of my Streetglide.
I used a wetted soft cotton cloth and gently wiped the bugs off. Took quite a few tries and then I re-polished with some detail spray. Question: is there an easier way that won't harm the clear coat? Better product I don't know about? It was a bitch getting the insect residue off the engine, frame, crashguard and especially anything recessed like fins or around the various parts on the engine and front chassis...
I've heard on this forum that a 50/50 mix of Hydrogen Peroxide and water will loosen them up pretty good. I haven't tried it yet. Give it a try and let us know.
I wash the bikes at the local HD store. I hate to plug the product, but the HD Bug Remover spray works well for me. It's water activated, so you spray it on your wet bike, wait a few minutes, and most stuff will come off with a strong stream of water. The rest comes off during the normal washing. But, like all HD stuff, they ain't giving it away. I get it free for use at the shop, of course, but if there's a comparable product out there that's cheaper to buy, let us know !

Pack a couple USED dryer sheets with you. Spray a little detail wax on it and they come right off with no harm to the finish, buff with a clean micro fiber towel.
I always found the best thing to do was to wet a towel and lay it over the windshield/fairing let it sit there for 5 minutes and then clean with polish etc.
