I just put a KandP Engineering reuseable on my Bagger. http://www.kandpengineering.com/
They have been certified to use by the FAA on airplanes. Good enough for me. Besides the obvious, there are more advantages. Go to KP engineering and read about them. Youtube. The part I like is on startup when the vavle is open letting all the suspended junk thru on the stock filter. And the oil helps cool the engine and these types of filters flow so much more oil. That in itself has got to help. You are going to get the 5 micron crap here so do some investigation. They were developed for racing applications. That is a hard environment so to me another good reason.
Just some thoughts.

I just started running a PC racing filter about 1500 miles ago.
It seems to me that the oil stays clean longer with the PC racing filter. This in it's self should tell you that it filters better. Some say it runs cooler, but I can't tell. I guess both are subjective unless you have a way to measure those things.
I haven't cleaned it yet, but looking forward to that. I have cut a stock filter to see what it looks like. After having seen the stock filter apart, I have to believe that this one will do as well, if not better.
I got the polished one and it does look good. It catches a lot of bugs and road grime, but so did stock. I washed my bike and it came off easy, so no problem there.
As far as saving money goes, if I ever trade this bike I'll just slap on a stock filter and keep the PC racing one. They fit most harleys , if not all.

thanks for all the input... its something that i will look into and go from there... we have 3 bikes so changing filters could add up over time, so im thinking it may be better to spend a bit more now then beging nickel and dimed to death (so to speak)

I'm of no opinion on which type of filter is better than any other at this time. However, with no disrespect intended, I do not feel the aviation and racing industries are good examples to base using a filter off of. I say this because in both instances the engines are torn down for full rebuilds and inspections frequently. I think if my memory serves me, aviation engines have a full inspection inside and out annually. And motorcycle racing engines get a full tear down after every race event. With that in mind I do not think they would be as concerned with a bit of debris going through the engine.

Now this does not mean that I am saying these filters are not as good, I just would want to look further into it than basing the decision off of it being good enough for the aviation and racing industry.

JMPO

Regards,
Paul

I have 52k miles on my Pure Power .
Haven't burnt any oil between changes (5-7k miles) and haven't been babying my bike. No mechanical failures either. Seems to be working very well.

Nearly 15,000 miles on a K & P Engineering filter on my Road Glide. Seems to do the job and isn't much trouble to clean with Brakleen and compressed air. What sold me on them is the fact that many dirt bikes have them now.
