Default wanna get an 07 sportster Nightster...

I notice on the HD website that the $99/month is an interest rate of 9.99%...I know that car interest is much higher. IS 9.99% a good interest rate for a first time buyer?

Assuming you have a good credit score....

a) 9.9% interest is WAY high for an auto loan. (All things being equal, auto loan rates are usually lower than for motorcycles.)

b) You could probably do better financing your Sporty through a bank or credit union. Keep in mind that a percentage of that finance charge is nothing but profitback tothe dealer.

On the other hand, if you have less than stellar credit, all bets are off and 9.9% might actually be pretty good.

I work for a bank and it sounds like the rate is pretty much in line with most major banks. Of course shop it around, but don't expect to see anything significantly less than that.

Take a good look at more than just the interest rate and "low" monthly payments. Check out the length of the loan- probably 60 or more months. I'd look around for other deals unless this is the only thing you can swing, and then, look at paying as much each month as you can, planning to pay the loan off as early as you can.

The nice thing about the Nightster is that since it is all black, you won't get chrome envy, however there are a lot of really nice black accessories out there, so don't get caught up in them either. Pay off the bike and then worry about spending your last buck on accessories.

I asked the salesman about the $99.00 per month. He said it was a really bad deal because it is on a six-year loan. The payment jumps up to close to $200 per month after the first two years. During the years you pay $99.00 per month you are paying almost pure interest. At the end of two years (when many people are thinking of trading in their bike) you have paid nothing off of the principal and you are stuck. The salesman told me he talks everyone out of financing this way that he can.

I too work in finance, and anywhere between mid 7-10% would be about right, depending on your credit. Prime rate is high right now and that dictates what lending rates are.

You can get a bike loan for 5.99%

9% is way too high.
