i used to riding with a friend, but riding in a group with him at point was hell, he would take off hell bent and even pass cars, so i got upset and will no longer ride with him, he don't get it that its like a rubber band being stretched out and to keep up you would need to go 90.

Like the OP, I like to do what I want to do, when I want to do it. LOL. My wife is on the bike with me about 50% of the time, but that OK. "Quality Time".
I do have a couple friends that I ride with occasionally, but I like riding by myself.
I actually prefer to ride by myself most of the time. It allows me to do my own thing and clear my head. I don't have to worry about anyone else with me and I can go at my own pace.
Solo always, except one maybe two trips per year wit a couple of buddies. Nice to have a meal together in a nice location, but the freedom of always being at my own pace, leave when I want , stop when I want, ride 190mi no stop if I feel like is what I enjoy the most.
Funny you should ask. I was invited today to go on a 'charity' ride upcoming weekend. Sounded like a good cause, 'till inviter said they expected 100+ bikes. Not my bag. I'll do the Rolling Thunder ONCE a year, then it is Almost always alone. All the reasons stated above. Let GF ride with me on the sportster when she feels like it. Used to ride with friends now and then, but groups suck. I get in the 'zone' riding solo. Riding as it was meant to be. Meet me somewhere AFTER I ride, it's cool.

I take a few road trips every year, each about 2500 miles or more. I always travel alone. My riding partners have moved away or quit riding long distances. Most all of my local rides are solo. I just don't have time to coordinate with others, and I have no interest in clubs, groups, etc.
If I waited for everyone that wants to go for a ride I'd never leave the shop. It's just best for getting in the most of my riding but I do like groups when it get's organized cuz most of us won't drink till the end of the day.
Usually riding two-up 70% of the time. And then just about every other Sunday in spring-summer-fall riding with a group (which I am co-organizer). So I get to lead or tail-gun which is ok by me. In group, have to stop every 100-120 miles for the Sportys to fuel. But then there are times I just like to ride by myself and get lost. It's all good.
