So I wear an old jacket I bought 10 years ago when I owned a metric cruiser. Everytime I am in the thing, it feels like it chokes me, almost like the wind fills it full of air making it want to lift right off of me, and my throat is the only thing stopping it. I never remember this on my other bikes, but I also had a full face helmet on those, and now just a half helmet. I have a much more comfortable ride when I don't have to wear the jacket, but when I am in my dress shirt and slacks for work, I use it to keep from looking windblown when I get to work.
Is there a certain way the jacket is supposed to fit? Is it possible my posture just sucks?
That's a good idea. The simplest solution is usually the best. I was thinking that on the way home, and figured it was too easy to be the answer. I guess I'll have to drag myself to the Harley shop again.....
The more closely the jacket fits to your body the less fabric there is to blow around in the breeze. Likewise there's less room for the breeze to get inside and inflate the jacket. If I had to guess it is the style of the jacket that is your problem. Either that or it's just too big for you
Bought me a new leather jacket. One with the Body armor in it. Tried the Fxrg out, the sleeves are tighter so they don't let as much air down them, they are longer that my bates jacket allowing me to buy a jacket that fit better. It has Gortex in it also making it water proof. A jacket is all about what yer pocket book can take and what yer looking to git out of it. I wanted someting water proof, has body armor, the sleeves are long enough, has a zip out liner etc. I found it in the fxrg. After coughing up the bucks I don't regret spending the money either. The wife likes the heck out of hers also.
You need to have a little room to be able to wear some clothes for the winter under yer jacket and allowing you to move too.
Also realize leather comes in different weights also. the thicker the jacket the more chill it takes off yer body, but the heavier the jacket is gonna be. I got the mid weight. I hate the cold myself.
If you don't zip a jacket up 3/4 of the way it will blow up pretty big too. Only way to stop that if you want to wear it more open is buy a windshield. But that's just my 2 cents worth.
It sounds like you need to tighten it up at the waist.
I also bought the FXRG jacket from H~D and it is the best jacket I have ever had. Leather wind proof and water proof, hard to beat.
