Default 40 hp gain with AC and Exhaust..Really?

There they go again...Just got my AIM (American Iron Magazine) for this month. They have a feature on an 08 Rocker. The bike looks good, and the claim is the engine was left all stock. Only changes were the AC and Exhaust. No ignition tuner or other mods. Looking down spec list the Horse Power is listed as 100 HP! Really? with no other engine mods? I have seen this repeatedly in this mag. Why print obvious BS? Maybe to sell more parts? Do people really believe you can gain close to 40 horses with an AC and exhaust? Sounds more like horse sh%& than horsepower!

Keep in mind, a lot of harley riders don't really know better. Their mag is supported by ad sales. If they claim big hp gains by installing parts that their advertisers sell, it supports the people that support the mag. It's not right, but yeah, I've seen it too....

It sounds like they're blowing smoke to make some sales for their advertisers, just like jus2 said. It's normal.

I don't know but maybe they go with the spec sheets supplied by the builder of that specific custom bike? I see that when they do a tech article on parts installation themselves they always back it up with a dyno run.

I get the corporate mentality of hyping parts to please advertisers. But leading people to believe that they can get such big gains from minor modifications is really dishonest. As far as just printing whatever fact sheet is given to them, I don't buy it. As professionals in the motorcycle industry they surely know that the claimed horsepower is a load of crap. It just makes me lose respect for them. Better to just leave the HP number out like they now often do with the claimed "cost to build" numbers.

Maybe the A/C comes with a nitrous hook-up and tank?
