Default Engine mod recoomendation

Engine mod recommendations are needed. I have a 2005 Deluxe that is carbureted and I would like to do some mods to it that will allow for a little more power. The 88 is just not doing it for me in terms of power and I am wanting more. What are some mods that can be done that are not going to break the bank? Lets say $1500 max. Thanks.

Cams are the best bang for the buck. If you do the work yourself, and farm the machine work out locally, you could probably squeeze in a big bore 95"or 97" if you shop a good deal.

My first mod to my 88" Softail was putting in gear drive cams. It really woke the bike up. A couple of years later I had my cylinders bored and head work done for $570. My GF bought the pistons for me for my birthday. Since I did the work myself, total cost was around $1100 for the cams and 95" build. It can be done in your price range if you do the work.

Have you looked at the cam chain tensioners? Are you going to do the work yourself?

I wouldn't know where to begin doing it myself. Luckily a guy that I grew up with owns a Harley dealership in my city and takes care of me service wise.

I'd say do a good Stage 1 if you haven't done it already, and some Andrews 21s. You'll have to decide whether to upgrade the cam chain tensioners, stay with stock tensioners or go with gear drives if the crank run-out is within spec.
