So the OP came here claiming that he wants to know about the 'new HD and buyers', claims he doesn't want anybody to get defensive, then claims he already has the answers and gets offended AND defensive.
Is that about right ?
No but enjoy your fantasy. My answers came from you people. You can't make this shyte up.
A 1300 Yamaha ? Is that a V-Star ? Did you do your 'homework' before you bought it ?
I bought my wife a brand-new 2006 V-Star. In 1000 miles, that bike had had twice as many warranty failures as my 2006 HD had in 100,000 miles. Both times the Yamaha broke, it quit running. In the first year of ownership. As far as my HD's failure, the 'Y' pipe cracked after a couple of years at about 50,000 miles.
Your quest for more education is definitely warranted, since I have direct same-time comparison data to verify that your assumptions are often incorrect. But try keeping an open-mind while getting educated.
Please come back and let us know what a bad choice your next purchase is, and ride safely now !

Absolutely did. and there were no common issues that kept coming up except having to remove the front pipe to change the oil filter on the 1100s, These are COMMON issues represented in this thread. Show me were your V Star issues were not one off and in fact common among VStar owners. I'll wait Here is some help on mine....
I can show you where every issue I represented is confirmed are common knowledge among owners and happen on many many occasions for many many years in more than one forum......
Love it....Maybe I should be thinking 1200C. Fatty front tire, It' still scratches the itch. No major issues. They can sound pretty nice.
I am not a tourer. I would be one of those guys who have a RK that rides 10 mile trips 90% of the time. One up. Wife hates the bike.
OY. Are you sure it is the bike your wife hates? Do you critique her every fault, on and on?

Midget
It's good to see that you don't mind sticking your head above the wall. The usual suspects have hit the nail on the head. I have an 2004 bike that is a keeper but would like an early road king to go with it, also to keep forever.
The problem nowadays are rubs, wannabees, motorcycle enthusiast, etc. who don't know a major problem from a minor one. Harley makes some of the most reliable bikes on the market, however, if you don't know how to correct a fouled spark plug, then Harley has reliability issues.
Hate to break it to ya Sparky, Ain't here to make friends....ain't here to win nothing or drink the Kool-Aid. AM here to read and learn as much as possible about today's HD from those who are not completely drenched and dripping in Orange and Black.
I am guessing some of ya don't understand how someone can desire a Harley and not care about the rest of the "lifestyle" crap. How someone who wants said bike wants to learn as much as possible about the motor and which years are the best and worst. Some of ya all would never admit to there even being worst years They are ALL the best. "Friends" like that I don't need.
Honest people who admit weaknesses and guide people to the best of the best are those whom I respect and have admiration for. Harley will never be tattooed where "mom" would be. It won't be my mommy....It will be my ride of choice for awhile. Nothing more nothing less. No magic, no emotional attachment to the inanimate. Just another fun ride in the park.
Keep drinking your own Kool-aid, Alice. And keep going out of your way to insult people. You could have found out everything you wanted simply by reading. As soon as you threw out the Kool-aid tag, you lost all credibility. In research terms, you tainted the sample. Any objectiveness you might have had, or were likely to find, was thrown out the window at that point. You appear, although appearances can be deceiving, to be intelligent. Is the way you have handled your thread the way you deal with people in the rest of your life? Let's never meet. I could never live up to your expectations.

I don't need credibility. Silly I am not the teacher here. I am the student. I lost credibility with the exact People I WANTED to lose credibility with. I am not as stupid as you think. I knew exactly what I was doing .Weeding out the crop. I know I would get flammed. I can handle all of it. I wanted to know who the "HD rah rah" set was out front.
Only Then, would I know who can teach me a thing or two about these bikes before I need to. CONFIRM a thing or two about these bikes I have read (oh I'm sorry people like you and them, don't call them "bikes" They are "Harleys") and more who is NOT credible. This may be social hour for you. For me it's a library of experience and unbiased knowledge.
I panned for and got a few nuggets of gold....Stiggy was extremely helpful as well as a few others. He is the kind of guy what WANTS to ride a Harley, loves his Harley, and hates the direction the MOCO has taken with them at the same time so his information alone was worth the flamming for a handful of you. As well more few who PMed me in support who for obvious reasons would not go public. I understand that.
So you can run along now and don't tell me what to say and how to say it. I know what I am doing. I am not here to make friends and be beloved. Just gathering anecdotal evidence from those who don't bow to the Bar and Shield.

I am beginning to learn that, people go into these bikes eyes wide closed. Even those with a the coin to blow. They don't see issues because they don't put the miles on.Then proclaim how reliable they are because their bike is six years old with 4000 miles. Other brunch problems aside and chalk it up to the "Harley Tax" Others love spending intimate evenings with their bikes on lifts fixing the latest problem and using the "opportunity" to throw in a set of cams or SE Cam plate "while they are in there and calling that a virtue.
113 year old basic drive train design. as opposed to the latest and greatest technology (where I would expect issues) and there are all too common issues that should have been solved 50 years ago. IMO. and from what I am reading the new ones may be a tad worse than the old ones.
But I want one and ride my 3K a year problem free. Dump it before 20K (or keep it if its a pre 03 and get it done up if I like it) But I won't extol the virtues of ANY bike with 10K miles I had no issues with. That is simply silly. Nor will I believe anyone but the luckiest people will ride 30K without needing at least $1500 spent on them. Its just that many people who do put the miles on, hate to admit it to their friends their bike is down again...or they say Aaw I'm throwing a set of cams in..LOL. THAT I have experienced first hand from a rider. Could not admit his 12k mile bike needed $1300 of work, so "he is throwing a set of cams in"
