Default Modular helmets

Hasanybody tried any of the Modular helmets out on the market? I wear glasses, & these helmetslook like they would be alot more accommodating than the regular full face helmets. I saw some on ebay from "Moto-Direct USA" for $49.00 that are DOT & built to FVMSS 218 standards. Has anybody bought from or seen any helmets from this store? The price kinda scares me. I raced cars for many years, & firmly believe that if you have a $10.00 head, buy a $10.00 helmet. Thanks.

You should look into the Nolan modular helmets. I believe you can get them for under $200 and they're very good helmets.
Here is the 2004 modular helmet comparison from Motorcycle Consumer News

I wear a Nolan and love it. Much more convenient than the traditional full faces I've had in the past. I'm not sure what kind my next helmet will be but I do know it will have the flip-up chin bar.

That isn't really true as far as safety goes. For comfort, fit & finish and things of that nature sure. When Motorcyclist did a helmet study last year the top rated helmet cost less than a $100 dollars.

I'm going to ck out every link in this tread, I went into the HD dealer and tried on the very best one they had,....... then I left it on for twenty mins.......... I could not stand it any longer, let alone 10 hrs. a day on a three week trip, I'll just keep looking.

I don't know what about the helmets you found uncomfortable, but people tend to either have Arai (pointy) or Shoei (round) heads. I don't know who makes the HD helmets but you might want to go to a dealership that sells both Shoei and Arai to determine your basic head shape. I've got a shoei head so keep that in mind when I recommend the Nolan's.

Like has already been stated, you're right on with the price hesitation thing. Yikes.

I personally love the modular helmets. Convenient, well-designed. I own Fulmer's Modus and I love it. Good helmet, well constructed, cost $150. I really like H-D's modular full-face, and it's not terribly expensive. That's probably the next one I would get right off the bat. I'm going to go check out those Nolan helmets myself just for curiosity's sake.

I have a modular and love it. I can ride with the face up or down or remove it very easy. Also has built in sun glasses like an F-16 pilot's helmet. Sure is handy when you make a turn and the sun is in your face. Flip the switch and you now have glasses.
