A plus thatI see to a modular helmet is that if you are involved in a crash a paramedic can get to you if they need to get your breathing going without removing your helmet or disturbing your neck.

A friend of mine has a sticker on his helmet that states, "Do not remove helmet until examined by a physician."

My wife has a HJC Symax, she couldn't stand wearing a full helmet but really likes the Symax.

You should look into the Nolan modular helmets. I believe you can get them for under $200 and they're very good helmets.
Here is the 2004 modular helmet comparison from Motorcycle Consumer News

Two guys at work have the Nolans and swear by them.

I bought mine from Jafrum.com for $80 delivered to my doorstep. I really like having the features of a full face but able to lift up the front to get air and cool off.

I have an HJC Sy-Max that is very comfortable and quiet. I also have a Harley design that is comfortable but very noisy. I have tried others lately (Arai, Nolan and Caberg) that fit way to close to my face. Advice is to try before you buy.

I bought a Nolan full face several years ago. Rode with it one time. Felt too enclosed for me. Tried a modularon butdidn't like the feel. Now I'm a half helmet head. Got an ACC Dot last summer. Love it. Occasionally I'll ride with a 3/4 if it is cold enough.
