Quick question on CAT

Went for a ride with the OL today (high 80's ). The heat from the right side of the bike wasn't unbearable but it was HOT. The CAT has to go.

So, if I get rid of it do I have to re-tune anything???

The ECM can and will change the AFR to 14.6:1 no matter if what you do. Air filter, mufflers or what ever. That is why there are oxygen sensors. In closed loop it will maintain the emissions.

Actually on a Calif bike, the O2 sensors tend to run lean -- down in the 13.xx range you will have to do some other tunes to get up in the 14.xx

but it will run a lot cooler without the cats -- your taking away 800 plus degrees.

13.xx is richer than 14.xx the higher the number the leaner.

lose the cat for sure...many people add xieds to richen the a/f mixture slightly in closed loop. you can usually find a de-catted pipe here in the classifieds, craigslist, or ebay. you can also find used xieds pretty easy--only a little over a hundred bucks new. you will see a significant loss of heat on the right side for the rider and passenger.

Get rid of the cat and the right side will be cooler. Add a retune to richen up a little and the engine will actually run cooler. To me, it's a two step process JMO but no you don't HAVE to retune.
