Default Stock mufflers? I kinda like em, for now...

Just got done with the exhaust mods to my 2010 Street Glide and I must say, I think I like it. When I bought it, it had a stage 1 and the stock 2-1 exhaust with cat and a SE Nightstick out the back. The sound was ok with the open end cap but I just didn't like the look. Plus the heat from the engine sucked at traffic lights. Baggers look better with duals anyway. So I decided to make a change and found a guy who had a set of stock headers and mufflers from a 2013 RG for $100. First thing I did was order the Nightrider Vied kit and installed it before I installed the exhaust. I set it at 75%, went for a long ride and noticed a considerable reduction in heat from the engine and it also ran much better with better throttle response. As an added bonus, the mpg went from 40 to 46 mpg. I would have never guessed that. After gutting the cat, I installed the stock dual setup with stock mufflers. After a short ride, I actually like the sound. Nowhere near as raspy and annoying as the Nightstick but deep and throaty with a growl when you crack the throttle. Haven't rode any distance to check mileage yet so ill get back to ya on that.

Well, I am finding that my HD Touring Performance mufflers with the 80db stamp are very enjoyable. I put them on for the big trip in June, and have left them on. Deeper then stock, but close to stock quiet. My cam definately made my Screamin Eagle mufflers quite loud.

Good thing I have an air horn, because I can tell cagers do not hear me alongside them when commuting in heavy traffic. Besides that issue, they are going to be staying on the bike for a while.

(see I spelled "quiet" and "quite" appropriately)

I like my Monster Ovals - a tad louder than stock (just a tad) and a nice deep rumble. Really loud pipes are for kids. And deaf people.

When I had my '09 FLHRP, I drilled out the mufflers on the beveled side of the opening in the back, 5 - 7/16" holes. They sounded great, I pulled into the dealership where I worked part time, they couldn't believe the sound. Nice and deep, now they charge people $50. to do it for them.

I was fine with my stock SG pipes for about a year. Then one day I was out on a ride with a buddy and we switched bikes for a while. Following him (on my bike) changed my opinion drastically. From back there, it sounded like the Jetzon's car! I put V&H Monster Rounds on it and LOVE the way it sounds now. Nice deep growl.

A stock 2 into 1 into 2 exhaust sounds pretty good if the cats have been removed.
I have a 5,500 mile trip coming up, and do want the roar the entire way.

Same here, except mine are Monster Rounds. They're plenty loud enough to get noticed.
