I have been thinking similar things since 3 weeks ago in Lake Placid, NY, when a huge friggen truck almost ran me over for real...1 inch, 1 second to spare...I have been riding for 40+ years and this was so...close it made me seriously think about doing a less death defying hobby...Several witnesses came up to me and told me they could not believe I was NOT killed...Kinda of makes you think...No LOL...I thinking of a brighter helmet, maybe a 3/4 instead of half helmet...The brighter jacket idea is also very interesting...Ride very safe.
The cell phone companies could put something into their system's that would dis-able the cell phone of their customers if they wanted to, say like after moving faster than 10 MPH, but unfortunately they won't until the aforementioned happens.
Sprint, at least, already has that available for many of their phones; they target it at parents of teens. It would be easy enough to do on all of them, but like you said it won't happen until someone with the right political connections loses a loved one.
There will be so much crying when it happens. "What about passengers?" "What if it's an emergency?"
Put the phone down and live your life for a while.
What's changed in this country the last 100 years people have been driving is the HUGE portion of our population now comes direct from 3rd world **** holes with no traffic laws and they hand out drivers licenses like the prize in a cracker jacks box , everybody gets one regardless .....................
I believe you are onto something here...
Police seems to get pretty passive around here....they apparently hate paperwork and let some bad drivers get away without being charged. Was sitting at a red light, 3 month after getting a new pickup. This young guy ran right into me... never even looked in front of him. Some girl sitting beside him and he was busy looking at her ****'s, I'm thinking. He wasn't charged with nothing. And so it goes......no wonder many drive like they own the road and have priority over everybody else.
I wear what I want to wear and have a loud air horn on my bike to get the other drivers' attention. I am watching them even if they are not watching me.
