More riders equals more accidents. There seem to be a lot of folks that are getting back on bikes after not riding for 20+ years and then there are also a lot of newbies who have never rode a bike and get a Big Twin as their first bike which is usually a recipe for disaster. Of course all the distracted drivers texting and talking on cell phones doesn't help either.
This is of course true but I thought they were talking in terms of percentage of riders. Meaning it wouldn't matter if we have 100.000 or 7 million motorcycle riders on the road.
If this 55% increase is based on numbers as they relate to increase of riders then it's not nearly as bad as I thought.

Hope you're right because 55% increase is huge.
Your right. 1.12 to 1.74 per 100K is a 55% increase per 100K.
Where did the CDC get their data? Why is the CDC spouting off data that is DOT territory? Never believe anything or anyone that does not provide the raw data to go along with the statics.
Call me crazy but I'm starting to not believe anything I hear, read, or see. I've seen edited video then the raw video and was amazed how bad it is now a days.
•Motorcyclist death rates increased 55% from 2001 to 2008 (1.12 per 100,000 persons in 2001 to 1.74 per 100,000 persons in 2008).
Anyone want to guess the murder rate per 100,000 in Washington DC, where our congressmen are more worried about us out on the highways, where as they should be worried about their families' safety on the streets of Washington?
Yes there was that increase. What they did not say is that there was a 300 % increase in registered bikes. Those were the glory years of bike sales. I think it was 07 when HD sold 440,000 bikes.

Have you ever been to DC and driven around the various ghetto's. The demographic is definitely not a good representation of the U.S. It's not the Congressman or government workers that are killing each other there. Although we could certainly do with less of them all.
