AP article below is a little clearer. I spoke to a guy that witness the wreck Saturday afternoon. Minivanpulled out too quick LH turn onto US-1. You have to love the "ran his motorcycle into the back of a minivan on U.S. 1 near Ormond Beach" .Should read "ran his motorcycle into the back of a minivan that suddenly, illegally and stupidly pulled out in front of him on U.S. 1 near Ormond Beach".
Couple dies in crash returning home from Bike Week
ASSOCIATED PRESS
DAYTONA BEACH -- A husband and wife died after their motorcycle wrecked Sunday on Interstate 4, in what officials called a Bike Week related crash.
The St. Petersburg couple were on a large motorcycle heading west on Interstate 4 when its rear tire separated as they crossed the bridge separating Volusia and Seminole counties, Florida Highway Patrol spokeswoman Kim Miller said.
John F. Taylor, 45, died at the scene. His wife, Laura Ann Taylor, 39, died about an hour later at Central Florida Regional Hospital, Miller said. They were not wearing helmets.
The Taylors were on their way home from Bike Week festivities in Daytona Beach, Miller said.
Police were still looking for the hit-and-run driver who killed a man visiting for Bike Week on Saturday.
Terence Connelly, 52, of Williamstown, N.J., was hit while leaving the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in DeBary.
Another man, who officials have not identified, remained in critical condition from injuries sustained Saturday when he ran his motorcycle into the back of a minivan on U.S. 1 near Ormond Beach.
Bike Week officially began Friday and will continue through March 11.
12 hours, 10 dead. What's going on? Those are definately not good odds. Isit worth the price toride there?
No doubt its dangerous down there. A lot of people partying and drinking make for bad things happening. I was there in '98 and I didn't touch any alchohol while riding. And when I did party, we got a cab....the bottom line is you can drive safe and still get in an accident. It still seems I see a lot of these accidents with cars and suv's where the people claim "we never saw him coming"....jesus how do you not see a motorcycle with lights on coming at you anyway??? Unless it's hauling ***, there's no excuse for it....
Here is a picture of Johnny from last year.......RIP
I hate to point this out, but look at the his tires in the picture you posted!
The rear looks pretty darn low on air and the front looks fairly low as well.
Scarey, very scarey!
One thing I find amazing about this wreck is the Police actully reported the tire failure on his motorcycle. Most times it is not in the report. I'm glad these Police officers decided to put it in the report to get peoples attention!
I've had a rear blow out at 90MPH after passing a semi while riding two up, it was VERY,VERY scarey, but the semi driver I had just pastlooked like he had seen his life flash before his eyes when he came over to help the wife and I get the bike out of the ditch!
From that day forward I check and adjust my tires every ride and for me that is every day as I ride to work every day as well as every weekend all year round!
Gods speed to John and Laura!!
I had to EDIT my post because I forgot to say that my rear tire blow out was in 1969!
Very tragic. Rear tire seperation is basically when the tire deforms snd comes apart. The belts let go and the individual steel belts and rubber start pounding againsteach other. I can imagine the bike went violently out of control with the rear end trying to pass the front end.

2 more senseless motorcycle deaths...it's a shame. I'm sure they were both helmetless which is a death wish in itself. A high price to pay just to look cool.
Your comments here couldn't be more wrong in more ways than one. What the hell is this "high price to pay for looking cool" crap? Why don't you take a look at the stats and tell me why any of us should ride at all? Do we all have death wishes? How would you feel if, after having a bad accident and surviving, people were saying that you had a "death wish" just for riding a motorcycle?
And 211Chuck, you can tell from that picture that his tires are low? You are friggin' amazing! You could put all these stupid "guage" manufacturers out of business just by teaching the rest of us how to just merely glance at a tire and tell the pressure.
Give the guy a break, him and his wife just died! Damn!
12 hours, 10 dead. What's going on? Those are definately not good odds. Isit worth the price toride there?
Those are perfectly fine odds, No one remembers how many bikes are their. You get a half million bikes, or more i cannot rmember how many bikes show up your gonna have what seems like HIGH deaths. When in all reality it is not that high for the amount of bikes their. Heck I bet Vegas averages 10-15 deaths per year but would be LUCKY to have 30k bikes on the road.
