Your knee is only as strong as the muscles around it. Do the therapy, even when your watching tv or sitting at the dining room table. There are always small exercises that you can do to strengthen the muscles around it to get it back to normal. It may never feel the same, but in some cases it can come back stronger and better than before if you work hard. I blew mine out in Iraq and it just took dedication to get it back to normal. Good luck to ya. Don't worry about it, you'll do just fine.
I've received synthetic lube injections twice now, every 6 months, in my right knee. Old sports injury, been scoped 5 times over the 32 years since I injured it, last time about three years ago.
Was starting to bother me again about a year ago, went to the surgeon, expecting to schedule another arthroscopic procedure, and he said nope. Going over the records he said going in again would be pointless.
He said we should try the lube, and that I could get it every six months as long as it works, and it does work so far.
If and when it stops working, next step is replacement. Every time I've thought about it, the one thought that comes to mind is "How long will I be unable to ride???" LOL
It is my right knee, and who needs a rear brake? LOL
my dad had both of his knees replaced about 2 years apart. they told him as soon as the glue sets, about 1/2 hour, the joint is as strong as it is going to get. it is just a mater of time for tissue and skin to heal. he was up and walking an hour after surgery both times. phys therapy is very important for the muscles to adapt and rebuild.
my dad is fat and lazy, but he still gets around pretty good if there is some where he wants to go.. if he lost 50lbs, and got some exercise daily, i think he would be good as new and back to work.(i also think that is the reason he doesn't do it)
I had tkr in dec 2011. I was riding 5 weeks later and back to work in 6 weeks. I do not do hard labor so it was easier for me. I think if you push in therapy and use ice all day to control swelling, your rom will come fast and that will help you. I found the first 2 weeks after surgery to be the most painful, then it was the muscles and tendons. As someone said the joint is strong after the glue sets and you can't hurt the joint. If you have any other questions let us know.
I went thru all the injections and all since Jan of this year. Had total knee replacement surgery on July 30th and was back at work 3 weeks later.
As was already said, do the therapy even if you don't feel like it at the time.
First week was a little rough but with the therapy every day seemed to get better and better.
For the last 2 weeks I have had a lot of swelling and pain so I went to my dr Wed and he drained 63cc's of fluid from my knee and the pain and swelling went away almost immediately. Today I am walking and even kneeling with very little pain whatsoever.
I feel good enough now that I am going to ride my RK tomorrow and hopefully be able to ride everyday after that. I haven't been able to ride since early May.
Don't sweat the surgery. If you've got a good surgeon I think you will be back to work long before 3 months even with you doing hard labor.
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. Good luck and don't worry you'll be fine.
After 9 months of pain I feel like I have a brand new knee.In a way I guess I do have a new one!
