I just ordered a 2014 streetglide special still in production and has not shipped yet.
I told the Harley Dealer I wanted Syn 3 oil in it before it was ever started.
They said only CVO models come with Syn 3, and all others come with standard oil. They want $115.00 bucks to change it out at Dealership.
Should I just leave the standard stuff in it until the first service or would it be best to change before 1000k?
Does anyone know why Harley doesn't use Syn 3 from the get go? I would think it wouldn't cost them much more since they buy in bulk anyway. I'm new here and wanted someone elses opinion.
thanks for the response!!
still don't understand why Harley doesn't use syn3 in all new bikes
We had a long technical discussion about this a while ago. The bottom line was that the Harley engine doesn't need synthetic oil. But folks feel better using it. So if you can afford it, it won't hurt your engine, but your engine wont benefit from it.

If the MOCO's instructions on oils was BS I doubt they would warranty the bike for 2 years. Just go along with their instructions. I have yet to see or hear of an authoritative scientific study that proves them to be steering you wrong.
As the others said, leave it in and change to Syn at the first change.
We recommend to break in the new Chevy HiPo motors with conventional oil.
Then change to synthetic after break in.
