Evo powered FXR. Comfortable, fast, easy to maintain and the best handling HD ever made. From long stretches on the interstate, to the twisties, this is truly a bike that does it all.

They haven't made the FXDXT since 2003...the Road King is a good 2up tourer and the lightest of the FLH line, but still a massive, slow, ponderous beast. The wife and I each have Dynas, probably the best compromise for North American travelling...
I agree with sharkey, I also ride a dyna (2007 street bob) it works well as a bar hopper, commuter bike, or for cross country travel. harley should bring back the DXT or sell a kit in the P&A catalog

Switchback....lighter and better handling than the King more nimble, yet still can go the distance!

I've owned a Road King, a Heritage Softail, and currently have a Electra Glide Ultra Ltd. The Softail looks the best when stripped down, The RK is definitely a do it all bike, the Ultra is very versatile if you have a quick detach tour pak - same idea as a Street Glide, but a bit more "plush". If you are primarily a two-up rider, get the e-glide with tour pak. Otherwise, look at a RK or Heritage. Just my humble opinion.

I love Touring bikes. But I wouldn't consider them "best do-it-all" despite the comments here.

How do we define do it all anyway? let see the several use of a bike:

1-heavy city traffic commuting
2-"sport" riding with quick acceleration and quick right left twists
3-lazy bar hopper
4-leisure rides on contry roads
5-long trips with lots of luggage

Although all of the above can be done with any bike by a reasonably experienced rider, there are bikes that are more "flexible" in their use.

Touring will be penalised a lot on 1 and 2
Softail penalised for 2 and 5
Dyna penalised on 5
Sportster heavily penalised on 5

Therefore the less penalised and "best do it all" has to be the Dyna.

P.S.: I'm totally unbiased of course....
