Default Lift Table Lifting Height

Like a lot of others I'd like to get a lift table. I've been researching them, so if you'd like to comment on a model that would be great, but what I really want to know is what is the minimum height one of these should lift to?

Some of the lifts I've seen only go 31", Black Widow has one that goes up 45", what have you found is the minimum height a lift table should lift a bike to put it in a comfortable position to work on?

My Handy SAM 1000 is a 30", that has been fine in my garage with a drywalled ceiling. I haven't needed the bike to be any higher off the ground than that.

30" locking height is the standard although I've seen some that only go up 29". I wanted, if possible, one that would go up a bit more than standard. I was concerned I would regret not having one that was tall enough. The one I ended up with (http://www.nhproequip.com/pro-1200se...-free-shipping) locks in at 31" but will go to about 33 without locking.

I've found that 30-31 is just fine, especially if you have a roll around stool to sit on. Take into account the garage ceiling height and even the garage door height if the lift will be under it when open, which is where mine sits.

45" is super high and I really doubt you would ever go anywhere near that high even with a ten foot ceiling. That lift would be good though, if you were recessing the lift into the floor as you would lose 7-8" with the recess.

I had the very same concern as you, researched intensely for 2 months before buying and in the end found 30 or 31 is a very good height and no need for more. I have no regrets with the one I bought.

The package deal with the side extensions, service jack, stool, etc was worth it. It's pretty much a clone of the Handy lift though fit and finish isn't as good, but I figured it was going to get beat up and scratched over time with either one. The place I bought from claims to keep all parts in stock so if anything ever needs replacing they will have it. That was another concern of mine, buying a Chinese lift and not being able to get parts if needed.

Hope this helps.

Default lifts

I too have a Handy lift..30in max..Let me give you some advice on the stool ( I have one too, very handy) it will get you in trouble fast if it gets under the edge of the lift on the way down..always make sure its clear before you lower the lift..I work around a lot of lifts, ( large factory) with variable lift heights they will kill you if you are not careful, good friend of mine lost his leg under one...Just thought I'd throw this out there..Scooter

Thanks guys. I kind of thought 30" would be enough since only 1 company was making the 45" height.

Just as a point, you don't have to spend a lot of money for one. I have the one from Harbor Freight and have had it for several years without any issues. If I remember right it was $300.00 and you can even get side extensions for another $100.00 and work on lawn tractors and atv's.
