Powdering triple trees question

I'm getting some parts together to get powder coated and have a question about the trees.

Is the fork stem permanently attached to the lower fork brace, or is it pressed in place with a plastic bearing?

Provided that the stem is masked off is there any reason to remove the stem from the brace?

Also, does the inside of the clamping area need to be masked off, or is it ok to powder the inside of that area.

I've had the trees powdercoated on three different bikes. Leave the stem on and mask it. The inside of the clamping area needs to be masked, or you need to grind/sand the powdercoating out of there, or the forks won't fit.

Don't touch the stem and be sure you clean the clamping to bare metal area after coating if it isn't taped off correctly . Razor blade works well for this .
