I assume the riders were in a tight formation, with some near the centerline, which probably contributed to the accident. These factors would be nice to know, but just the fact that it happened isn't very useful.

R.I.P.
ABSOLUTELY agree, if it was something to learn from it would be a whole different thread, then just announcing someone died.

Statistically speaking, using numbers from Maryland Crash Statistics, 298 people died in auto crashes in 2011 while only 76 bikers died.

Even though it happens 4 times as often, nobody posts when cagers die in crashes. I'm no statistician, but the numbers tell me I'm more likely to be killed from crashing my car than from crashing my bike.

I get the safety awareness aspect, but do we really need constant reminders of fallen riders?

ENOUGH with the morbid biker down threads!
First, you don't understand statistics. How many cars are on the road versus how many bikes? That makes a big difference in ratios, and, this is not a cager site.
Second, if you don't like the threads, don't read them!

Do they post fatalities over in the Ford Ranger forum?

I don't get it...hey I don't know this dude but just read he died. Really?
No, but they do on the Goldwing, BMW, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Star forums. It's a motorcycle thing, I suppose.

I agree with the OP - Enough already! I know it's dangerous!!!!! So is walking, bicycling,
running, driving even crossing the street - if you don't pay attention.

I skim the headings of each post - I always skip "Biker Down" Just the sight of that heading is bad enough IMO

I'll try to make it simple. If you don't drink and ride a motorcycle, and you have more than 1 year of riding experience your propability of being invoved in an accident is closer to that of an automobile.

If you ride, you are not more likely to get into an accident than a cage is.

The statistics are that if you do get into an accident, it's more likely to be serious or fatal than that for a cage.

ENOUGH with the morbid biker down threads!
Lets see what is the percentage of bikes vs cages on the road? Also that is Maryland, they have a thing called winter, a time when most bikers don't ride. Based on those two facts alone it explains the difference. I think if you look at the actual riding season cage vs MC cage will still be higher simply because there are more of them, however the gap will be closer.
