I have a 2011 dyna, original battery. recently its been taking a little longer to start and when I push the start button the odometer and the backlight behind the gauges shuts off until it starts. Its never not started. Not sure if its a close to dead battery or something else. Thoughts?
It's letting you know it is getting ready to croak. Unusual for a bike that new. I got about four years out of my heritage battery. Ask your dealer about it.
After you do all the stuff mentioned above, rub the tank and say "come on baby, one more time" prior to each start. When it finally fails, try to pushing it till you are ready for someone to call 911. After that, you may want to consider a new battery. That's generally the approach I've used.
They say storing a battery on a cement floor will drain it's power, the same bunch also say that since your battery is grounded to the frame of your bike, just leaving the bike on the kickstand will drain your battery if the kickstand is touching cement.
Maybe that's what's going on here. Cut a small piece of rubber from an old tire and glue it to the bottom of your kick stand, that otta fix the problem.
Edit: For those that have no sense of humor. The above is a joke. Hence the smily/winky face.

Since you live in Ohio, and the weather is probably colder, it will crank slower unless you have a heated garage to keep it in. My Adventure Power AGM battery is 7 years old and still going strong, but they can go at any time. I have never had mine on a tender and it always starts right up in the spring, but I usually get in a couple of rides through the winter.
Buddy next door just went through the same thing....seemed harder each time to start over the past few months...the other day he was asking for a charger...charged over night and just enough juice to roll over the motor a few times....it would not even start trying to jump it off....he took the battery in and was Gone....
