Picked up a used tank off the forums and was assured prior to buying it that it had no damage at all. Got it and noticed that there is a small dent in the side. Looks like the handlebars may have been set to low and the forks turned to full lock and got the side a bit. It's a small dent, but still, a dent that should not have been there.
Hopefully the seller makes it right, not wanting to call them out publicly just yet.
Can this be pulled out, or is the tank too thick to do that effectively?
Also, my brother in law who I got the tank for is concerned about a purple/pinkish build up on the filler area. He thinks it might be some bondo or body filler residue but I'm not so sure. Anyone got any ideas if this is normal?
No damage means no damage. I wouldn't call the seller out publicly, try to work it out privately. If not, chalk it up to experience. Life's too short to get overheated about small stuff. I don't know if the for sale forums have feedback, haven't spent much time there.
Paintless Dent Removal can do wonders ... but first check with the seller ... Most on here are stand up guys ... Could it have happened during shipping?

Probably so. There are few variables that come into play.
The fact that the dent is on a curve makes it a little tougher.
The location of the dent relative to the filler opening, you have to be able to get a tool at the back side of the dent without damaging the filler opening.
The thicknes of the material is not that bad. It is worse than most car panels basicaly because of the shape of the tank, getting a good line of sight and holding it.
All that being said, I have taken dents out of many tanks, but have failed on a few as well.

Also, its rare to find a tank that doesn't have dings or gouges or imperfections in the metal before paint. It's not uncommon for a painter to skim a light coat of filler.

But on a stock painted harley tank?
Thanks for all the help guys. Haven't heard back from the seller yet. Hopefully soon.
