I know Im getting annoying but I am so clueless as to why this is happening. I installed the apes and yesterday my bike was running good. Today I took to the tank off to put some wire covers on and rerun my turn signal wires being that I moved them to the fork tins. When I put everything back the way it was and started it up it was fine. But when I drove it it would back fire thorugh the carband hiss like it wanted to die. I got home and took the tank off again to make sure I didnt pinch a line, I double checked vaccuum hoses, everything seems to be intact. Again I put everything back together. Now when I start it its worse! It backfires at idle and dies. Sometimes it backfires while trying to start. What gives, it was perfect yesterday, now it sounds like my old 77 Blazer!!!
wow, no one has had this problem? I know I should just get a manual or take it to a shop but thats the problem. My closest Dealer is 45min from me, thats why i do my own work except for services. So can anyone please help me?
sounds almost like timing or something, you didnt by chance mess with the plug wires?? or maybe pinched a wire?? maybe something to do with the kill switch?? I suppose its just time to take the tank back off and do some systematic troubleshooting (wow, that sounded fancy!!)
Anyway, good luck, chances are its something dumb, that is probably just overlooked,
grab a beer, sit back, and mentally go over the project. At least the beer will help
Maybe you knocked some crap loose in the tank that is now blocking a fuel line or filter. Rust, dirt, etc. Did you screw around with the gas cap at all? I've heard of people replacing the gas cap with one that doesn't work for their bike or truck (i.e. not ventilated right) and the gas won't flow out of the tank. If you have last year's gas in the bike change it or put some dry gas in there to get rid of any water that may have condensed over the winter.
I'm not a mechanic by any means. Just thought I'd throw a few ideas out there...hopefully it's something simple and you can get back on the road soon.
Look at your plugs to see if it's burning too rich or too lean.
