Hit a raccoon in June at over 60. Blew the valve stem clear out of the rim. Rode 3 miles before I noticed it was flat. Glad I changed out the 21" spoked rim for a solid billet rim.
It's still a 21", just a solid billet wheel. I think the spoked would have been bent at that speed and the size of the critter. I was lucky I was going in a straight line, and hit him pretty square. Had it happened in a curve would not have been pretty.
I had a front tube disintegrate at 85 MPH. It was really not as bad as you might think. The worst part was as I slowed it got a bit squirrelly. Probably around 40 MPH and below as best I remember.
