I have a Customer Bobber
Pugho frame with 1982 Dual Plugged Shovel and 4sp Tranny
Kicker only
Run a open primary and chain drive. Rivera Primo Primary Brute IV 3 inch belt
Question:
Recently I lost Nuetral (suicide shift got a litte sketchy)
Clutch plates were sticking
Installed new clutchplates, and throwout bearing
reinstalled tranny
Primary belt is tracking WAY to the inside
Everything seems to be inline, used a straight edge a bunch of times
removed and reinstalled tranny twice...Ive even cocked it both directions slightly to see if there was any change (none)
running with chain off, so no tension from tight chain or misaligned rear wheel issues
it has always crawled in on the sprockets a little, ut never rubbed
now it is rubbing rubber off the belt.
Maybe the clutch/clutch plates and the throwout bearing didn't get seated all the way? Don't know if thats possible, just throwing it out there. Good luck and welcome!
Also, are you sure the belt itself is installed in the same orientation as it came off the pulleys? Seems odd but if it's on backwards it could cause this. My bet is on the trans mounting or the trans plate is just slightly off. If you didn't move the motor or motor pulley, then it has to be the tranny.
If I could also add: This is a great site! However, it really isn't geared to "your" kind of bike. You might want to check out the Chop Cult or the Jockey Journal forums. Tons of knowledgeable guys over there with your kind of ride...
Thanks again
Its definitley on the same way....
Gotta be out of alignment....I just cant see it
Ive straight edged both pulleys a dozen times, adjust, adjusted plumbed it up....again and again
Never removed either sprocket....only clutch plates from inside
Im lost, thats not new and im no mechanic, just a handy farm boy
pics of bike attached....its a fire breathing dragon, rough mean an fast just like my old lady
Down and dirty... no frills and NO CHROME. I like it! So if you didn't remove either pulley chances are the tranny is mounted to the plate slightly different. Unless you removed the plate also... The clutch plates shouldn't have this kind of effect. If all you did was replace the clutch pak why pull the tranny in the first place? In so much, if you cocked it fwd and aft slightly and saw no change, It could mean you need to shim the right or left side of the tranny. There's 2 planes of alignment not counting the in and out alignment of the pulleys to each other. I'd go back to the beginning and align all planes with the straight edge, then re-install the rear drive chain and get the correct tension on the belt and chain. Then see what you get.
