Default A question about risers

I installed 5" pullback risers using to stock riser bolts and have everything tightened down real good. The problem is while straddling the front wheel I can grab onto and put some torque on the handle bars and they will turn/rotate. At first I thought I didn't have all the bolts tight enough so I double checked all of them. I made sure the fronts of the riser cap was tight first, then the rears, and cranked on the riser bolts only to have the same problem.

My thoughts were maybe the bolts are too long and bottoming out and would need to get shorter bolts. I haven't tried yet, but I also thought that if I add a washer or two then tighten them and see if that works.

I also did a little digging and found that I wasn't the only one that's had this problem, and read that by replacing the bushings with solid bushings the issue would/could be corrected.

Can anyone here confirm this or have any experience with it?

Depending on what the amount of turn/rotate is, this could be normal. They are poly bushings, and are suppose to move a little.

They rotate enough that the handle bars are way out of alignment.

If they're not springing back, sounds like somethings loose. Try a set of poly bushings (stock are rubber). You've added riser length so the leverage changes. Do you have a solid top plate or split? A solid plate will prevent the twisting.

If you go with solid bushings or hard poly bushings they will fix that problem. Stock bushings are cheap and flex a great deal when you add leverage to the bars by using taller risers. My brother put 9" risers on his bike and we had to go solid or the bars would turn and front end stated in place and he did use the solid top plate still flexed like crazy. The bushings are there factory for comfort and vibration but he can't tell any difference.

Individual plates:

Would I be better off with poly bushings or solid bushings?
