Default Question about risers.

Ok I have been reading these forums for a while now. It is part of my required morning reading while I am here in Kabul as a contractor. I bought a 99 Fatboy while I was home on vacation and love it. My question goes like this. The guy I bought it from put 2 inch pullback risers on it. The problem is now the bars feel loose so to say. Any time I park the bike and stand it back up the bars are warped to one side. It does it at slow speed turns to which as you can imagine gives an unsteady feeling. Is there any way to resolve this? Either store bought or do it yourself. thanks in advance for any help you guys can give.

It sounds to me that the risers are loose. Have you tried to tighten them?

The riser bushings are more than likely shot and need replaced.
Check to make sure the riser bolts aren't loose as AusMongrel suggested.
If the bolts aren't loose, the bushings are an easy replacement job.

Thanks. I took it to the dealer and they checked the bolts with a torque wrench and said they where good. They said that it might have something to do with the fact that it was rubber mounted? Make any sense to you guys? Thanks again for your help.

Yes, either rubber or Polyurethane bushings are used. They have some give but if it feels sloppy, they are more than likely shot and need replaced.
They are used to reduce handlebar vibration.

Get Polyurethane riser bushings. It sounds like they have stock rubber bushings in them. With pullback risers you need poly!

Thanks for all the help guys. My dad is taking it to the dealer for service and a tire change so when I get home in November it will be ready to go. I will get him to get the bushings changed and poly ones put in. Thanks again for all the great advice.
