Just changed my stock slip ons on my 2006 FLHTI for a set of 2012 FLHX slip ons , exhaust outlets were a bit larger on the FLHX , hoping to just get a deeper tone , but still quiet . Call me Grampa ! And to my surprise it is a tad louder than I think I like , have to wait for spring to hear on a longer ride !
The 2006 flhti mufflers had catalist in the right muffler, for 2010 and later the catalist was in the head pipe. The 2010 and later right muffler is lighter and flows better than your 2006. Stands to reason it may be a bit louder. No cat in the left touring muffler in any year that I can find.

I had a dealer in Maine tell me about the cat in the 2012 the cat was in pipe , but he told me that 2006 did not have a cat. But yes better flow for sure !
Is there really that much of a difference in sound by swapping to the later slip-ons? Either in tone or overall loudness? I bought a pair of 2013 mufflers cheap cheap cheap on Ebay to do the same to a budget build on a 2006 Electraglide Std which will also see a police air-ride solo seat and stereo. Winter is in full swing here so any work is on hold til the springtime.

Yeah, my dealer service rep told me the same thing. I told him to get down on his knees and read this on ONLY the right side muffler, as stated by Twincam above:

Yes in tone and loudness ,I notice the tone in the idle alone , and I notice as soon as you crack the throttle ! I'm glad I didn't spend 5-6 hundred on V/H or rhineharts these I spent 75$ , plenty loud for me . And I have only rode it about 5 miles seems to run fine , has to breath better !

Wow tomorrow morning I'll be looking at my 06 mufflers and check that out . I never even looked ! Post my findings in morning .
