Been running one kind or another every since the sixties. Never had anyone approach me and tell me it is gay or say something stupid like that to my face. Still have on on each bike to match the bike colors without being in anyones club colors. I like for my get back whips to be long enough to hang above the floorboard/peg depending on bike. OP, enjoy what makes you smile---deal with what doesn't.
the only one I've ever seen was out in Podunkville, on a HA's bike. And he was bad enough to use it, and I wouldn't have wanted to be on the receiving end of it with him doing business. It was on his left side, and had the quick release.
It's pretty useless other than decoration on your throttle side.
I don't want something flapping in the wind and have it hit me. And I'm sure not going to hit a car with it. That's a losing battle to start with. Plus I don't think they look all that great hanging there.
I don't think the get back whip serves any purpose what so ever ... an I agree with the posting about getting it stuck in something and causing big problems ... But the reason I replied is to address the issue of the "old man with the razor strap, belt or whatever" . I too was raised by a tough old country Irishmen and sent to a Catholic School. They all subscribed to the "Spare the rod, spoil the child" method and while some ( many? ) would be very vocal in regards to condemning that policy today, I'd venture that all of those who were treated with the "love and kindness" that was doled out with one of the straps are, for the most part the ones who have a job, go to work, follow the accepted standards for how one acts in public and are a productive member of society ... just my .02 cents worth ...
