My 07 Fatboy is at 40k miles. Only performance mods to date are high flow AC, V&H Pro Pipe, and PC-V from Fuel Moto. Bike runs great and does not smoke or use excessive oil. It is a bit doggy with a passenger on back. So, planning on putting an Andrews 48H cam in along with new inner bearings. Will re-use stock push rods. Also will check my crank run out while she's apart. I know I have the good Harley "B" lifters. Just wondering if I should replace them. They are not noisy now. Doing all my own work, so labor cost is not an issue. Opinions from experienced motor heads appreciated.
It's not a bad idea to change the lifters too. They wear and you just never know. My last set 08 RG crapped out at 27000 mi. I like the Gaterman lifters. Google it, the details are there.
your gonna be in there you might as well do em up. i just ordered a set of Feuling lifters to put in mine sicne i am gonan be in doing cams, bearings and tensioner shoes. its worth the piece of mind knowing when i get it all back together im good for another few years
I figured it was probably a good idea to replace them. But I have read posts of people going over 100k miles with the "B" lifters. I guess they are no longer available from HD? I've been looking at the S&S lifters and also Gatermans. Not sure where to buy Gatermans...?
I recently installed new cams in my softail. I used my stock push rods. Initially I was going to re-use my lifters. These are roller motors so, there is no cam to lifter "wear in".
After much debate I went ahead and replaced the lifters while I was in there for peace of mind. BTW- my old lifters showed no signs of wear and there is absolutely nothing wrong with them. My bike had 26,000 miles at the time of the cam swap.
It's up to you. More than likely you will be fine re-using your old lifters. But, I do understand installing new ones for peace of mind. That is why I did it.

Engraved Rebellion: Inside Bundnerbike's Glam Rock II
Hey Ironhorse-Just curious about which cams you went with. I did a ton of research before deciding on the 48H Andrews. Figure I can always swap them out later if i go bigger displacement. Guess I will not know what shape my "B" lifters are in till I pull them out...
Sounds like having replacements on hand is a good idea...
