We just got back a few hours ago. We went to one of the plantations for a while and ate at Shem Creek Bar and Grill. It was pretty nice. Bikes were aplenty.
Yorktown, magnolia plantation, drayton plantation, ghosts and graveyard walking tours at night, Fort Sumter, boone Hall plantation, Charleston Aquarium, HL Hundley, the old slave market, Provost Dungeon, and I am sure other will mention more.
We stay at either the Hilton or Hampton each time we go.
Hampton out on the marsh near California Dreaming if you don't want to stay downtown. Downtown can be pricey depending on where you stay. BTW, what people commonly call the Ols Slave Market is really just the city market as no slaves were actually sold there. That was done a few buildings away. Take a horse carriage tour. You will learn a lot. If money is not a concern, google the inn at meeting st, #2 meeting st. The wife will probably rape you for staying there. It's down at the battery
We stayed downtown at Hampton...very nice and you pay for it $225
a night. But you can walk everywhere and the free trolly is available.
We mostly went to meet friends haven't seen in long time and to see the city for first time. And get a break from weather here. Flew in last night into snow storm 7 inches on back porch when I got up this A.M. Glad we got back...would hate to miss a snow storm! Would go back to Charleston didn't get out of city didn't see plantations or gardens...better closer to spring for them to!

Hap,
Look into time shares on Folly Beach... Every other year we get one for the whole month of October (off-season,) which is cheaper... Staying right on the beach is HEAVEN!!!
But, keep the bike clean and covered... The salt air is a Bi***!!

Best city in the USA. Went as a boy, flew out of there for Uncle Sam a few times & honeymooned there 26 years ago. Still ride the bike down there a couple times a year. May retire there one day.
