the Experienced Riders Course. They are hard to find here in So. Cal but our HOG safety officer booked 20 spots in advance for us. The cost is $85 and I'll get a $50 gift card for Harley (have to be a HOG member) when I complete the course.

Has anyone taken this? Any advice on what I might need to practice before going?

I'll be taking the ERC in May. Same deal as you with my HOG chapter. I'm really looking forward to it.

I took the BRC in September of 05 and the ERC in September of 06. It was a lot of fun, but it was a workout, too. There were only 4 of us in the course, so it went pretty quickly and there wasn't much time for rest. Probably the hardest part was weaving through the cones one handed.

I was the lone Harley with 3 GW's. I did a lot of scraping the pegs while the GW riders were hitting the cones. I was able to keep it in the small box doing the U turns and figure 8's and the guys on the wings couldn't keep it in big box.

It was a blast. The biggest mistake I made was not getting a reciept for the course so I could get the $50 gift card, too. I never even thought about until after I got back....

Signed up for the ERC course last month. Our cost is $100 with the $50 H-D Cert after. It's held rain or shine so how about everybody hoping for a sunny May 12 in Bellingham?
Thank you for your support!

Bev, I took the course. Probably the only thing that caught me unaware was they make a point of: if your rear brake should lock up,keep it locked upuntil the bike comes to a stop. Point being that as long as your front wheel is turning freely the bike will go in the direction it is pointed even if the rear is sliding out to the side. This is something you could work on in advance to become a little familiar with. And yes, even though the rear might be sliding out toward the side, stay on the brake. If that rear wheel starts turning and grips the road you're going to go over the top!!

the only real difference between the BRC/ERC is your own bike...it's good to take one every other year or so to let someone look to see if you have picked up any poor riding habits that could come up and bite you in a panic situation...remember the more you practice your skills..whether while riding or in a lot your motor funtions will become more of muscle memory instead of having to think for a split second which could be all that it takes to avoid or become part of a situation..I can keep going on ..on how much of a tool these classes are..however you get the idea...good luck..only prep...good tires, etc..do the CLOCK check on your bike..Always remember keep your head up and straight...look down and you go down...bike in a lot exercise...figure 8's..and tight circles....the u-box..between two parking spaces.....BC

I plan on taking the ERC this year. I try to practice the manuevers from the Ride Like a Pro IV video in the local high school parking lot as often as I can. I'd like to get a set of small cones that I could setup there. Currently I use the 1/2 tennis ***** and they work ok.

Well, I'll hope you get that, but since I live just down the road, I'm not thinkin' it's going to be all that nice.
