Default First fire up for the year

It got up to the low 60s today and seen some out riding so it was time to fire up the FXD,had to jump it since it still has the original almost 8 year old battery but it fired right up after sitting since late october. One of the key fobs had a bad battery so off to find the spare so it looks like two new fob batteries are in order and same with the bike since it would not restart, while I had it running I found out the gas tank was loose and not a loose fork so I wont have to spend any money there and just get a battery. Tempted for a ride but too much ice still in the driveway so once it was out of the garage there would be no way to get back in so it will have to wait until the ice is gone, since I almost got 8 years out of the original battery I am going to price one at the dealer this weekend and hope to get one in by the following weekend.

At least you got it started. I didn't get to start or ride mine from December 31 to January 25...but my bike was in the shop. .

I had the battery on the tender last week and thought it would have tried a little harder to start but it was very weak,I know the battery is very questionable but after I stuck a small charger on the battery for about a hour it fired up real quickly so I am wondering if my tender is any good. Its definately getting a new battery this year.

I'm not sure how long bike batteries last but if you had it on a tender and it was still weak, something's not right...just which one? I don't know how to test a tender but getting a new battery isn't a bad thing. Sounds like a good idea.

Bike was built 6-06,I got it in 4-08 and never changed the battery so I presume its original.

I did my first fire up for 2014 after it sat for 5 months waiting to be rebuilt.. pissed oil out of the intake pushrod cover for the rear cylinder... the saga continues.

40 degrees and it fired right up,since it gets ridden to work about 85 percent of the time and only about 4 miles from the house I am wondering if the battery does not get charged back up all the way in that short of distance. I hooked up the battery to a small regular charger last night and got it charged all the way up and for being as cool as it is it spun over quicker then it normally does when its this cold,it is still going to get a new battery but wondering when I ride it to work should I take a longer route since its only running less then 15 minutes each way.

4 mile ride probably ain't charging her back up..

You might look for something like a 30 min ride, or maybe a 3-4 hr ride...LOL..

Definitely not enough time to charge a battery or bring the engine up to temperature. Consider getting a much smaller bike if that's all it does (possibly a bicycle). Or walk.
