Default Bike Week Festivities Not Quite So Festive

Bike Week Festivities Not Quite So Festive - 2007 Daytona Beach Bike Week started out with cold and wet weather. The weather turned mid-week, but the crowds really didn’t. Are the bikers finally tired of Daytona’s attitude towards them, or are they just not going farther than Destination Daytona?

We too felt that the crowd was down, but we didn't make it to Destination. Seems that everything is so spread-out now, Beach street seemed empty and the crowd near the race track was way down. We stayed at Deland and didn't see many bikes at all. Maybe next year will be better.

I don't go where I'm not wanted. Destination and the Ormand area works for me. Heard horror stories from some older Ultra riders about getting tickets from Daytona PD for loud pipes. Now writing up hooligans is one thing; but old farts on touring bikes....come on Daytona; if you don't want us someone else will.

I've found the "ralleys" to be great - - once! Daytona may have once been the place to be, but the town's made enough $$$from the bike weekS to be back to givingbikers (anyone on a scoot)a hard time. The experience is cool, the folks on scoots are great (and know how to have a real good time on and off the scoots), but the locals only know how to double the prices just for us.
From now on, I'll stick to the lesser known rides (and parties) myself.

Daytona discouraged the spring breakers years ago. Now they are all up in Panama City. I heard it is a 60 million dollar loss for Daytona.
There are so many other great bike rallies all over the country. This may be contributing to the loss of interest for Daytona. If it were'nt for cold weather and cabin fever, there would be less people from the North making the trip down.

BINGO! Daytona is okay but it's not what I consider a GREAT time. BUT after a long cold Indiana winter it is the first rally and a great excuse to get out of the cold. We've been two years in a row just to get out of the cold.

Panama city is trying to run them out as well. The panama city PD shut downsome wet T- shirt contest last fall at thunder Beach. The puddinazation of this country is running amuck. Hoping to find a few goodspots off the beach at Thunder beach.

Every corner there were at least 4 cops, writing tickets for anything, pipes, non-clear lens, reving motors, it seems like were not welcome anymore. I think next year Ill skip.

Where was this?
We stayed in Bunnell, rode into Daytona EVERY morning, never had a LEO look at me funny once. Granted, the prices downtown were a bit steep, but had a heck of a week riding all over and doing the bar tour........Saw one drunk lady in front of Froggys that needed her a** beat, other than that, Every person I met treated me like a good friend everywhere we went...

I will be back.

Daytona holds no mystique for me. The city has an attitude that is almost like "Leave your money here and just turn around". I'll keep my money where it is appreciated.

...IMO South Padre should take Biketoberfest and Bike Week. Fewer geezers bitching at you, and a city that embraces their tourist element. F* Daytona.
