Opinions from those that bought Bell Custom 500's.
Remember during the holidays when there was the great close out prices on the Bell Custom 500's. Just wondering how some of you are liking them by now ? Because of winter I've only had a chance to wear mine a few times. I actually bought a white one and a black one. I noticed the black one fits a little looser on the sides. My head measures 23' so I ordered a large according to the size chart. I have found the Custom 500 to be a very light weight helmet. I have tried it with a visor and without which I prefer without. I am going to try wearing a helmet liner and see how I like that. I've purchased two different brand helmet liners to see if I like one better than the other. I was able to ride about 60 miles today and the Custom 500 seemed pretty comfortable. For the price it's good as a back up if nothing else.
I bought a Bell 500 and a Fulmer V2 at the same time... I still own the Fulmer.
The 500 had a little nicer fit and finish (trim, cross stitching, etc), but felt and looked larger and heavier. The V2 has a more snug fit and light feel. Just my humble opinion though! Mostly ride with a full face lately myself...
Picked up one this winter for $50 and it has turned out to be a real bargain. Does feel light and well made. Sometimes will get a hotspot on the forehead if I don't get it positioned right before strapping it down but I think that's just my head. Have an XL and the looks don't seem any worse than my half helmet I usually wear.
Picked one a couple of years ago, I go back and forth with it. Some days I like it and other days I can't stand it and wait to get it off. I have to get it to sit just right or it aggravates me. I have more of a narrow head, so I think that's why.
I'm on my 2nd Bell now and wear them throughout the year. A bubble shield with a little foam tape to stop the rattle for long distance. No hotter than most 3/4. Earbuds fit well also. Want to try one of the new ones also.
I like the bell 500, I wear mine on cold rides, I have a flip down shield for really cold weather, keeps my ears warm. I think they are classic helmets, when it's hot out I wear one of my half helmets
