I just logged back on and read down thru the posts... I read that one three times [sm=wtf.gif] finally I SORTA understood what he was saying..[sm=dontgetit.gif]... I am glad I am not the only one.
In MY perfect world, HD would shift focus in '08 to improving other aspects of the bike that are long overdue:
[ul][*]ABS[*]For the Dynas and Tourers, a 3rd mounting point for the engine so that we no longer have to look to 3rd party products to eliminate rear end sway (Buells and Sporties already have this.)[*]A Revolution-based bagger to go up against the Wing and BMW LT.[/ul]
I'm sure there are others but those are my two top requests.
They already have the tooling for the 103"; all police models are 103" and so are the Screaming Eagle CVO's. Shouldn't be much of a stretch to switch to an all 103" production. I like the idea that the Ultra might have a standard big bore engine though. It needs it in a strong headwind.[8D]
I'm not sure where everyonehas been but the 07, 96 in. engine has the same stroke as the 06 screaming eagle 103 in engine. If you put the big bore kit on the 96 in. engine it that brought the 88 in. engine up to 95 in you end up with you end up with a 103 in. engine. The 07 Screaming Eagle is 110 in but if you want to convert a 96 in engine to the 110 you also need to bore out the cases to accept jugs that are even bigger than the standard big bore kit.
I got a 07 fxwg, doing a 103 kit to it as we speak. All I got to do is bore the jugs to a 95" kit, The 96 has a longer stroke than the 88. I'm going with tw37 andrews cams. Taking the SE Race tuner off and going with the Thundermax with Auto tune for the fuel milage.
I have been showed if you bore the 96cu to a 110 there's not much meat left on the cases to pull the heads down goodseal to stop leaks, the bore gets next to the bolt studs. I wouldn;t suggest boring a 96 to a 103. I've done been talking with the tech about the problem.
Okay, I agree with all of you saying it wont happen....at least for 5-6 years.
BUT as the discusion went on the metric bikes came up (along with Victorys and the 100")as what size there top of the line crusers engines are and that Harley needs to step up to these levels to keep competitive. Makes sense but does Harley really need to do that because there not selling as many bikes they would like to because of the metrics having a bigger engine bla bla blaand taking away buyers?
IMO...NOT
I'm with alot of you, right now 88" is just fine but I think if Harley did step up to these sizes more buyers would be more inclined to "trade up" sooner for the bigger cubic inches don't you think?
