A fully charged, engine off battery should show 12.6 volts.
Second day of ownership of a $35,000 Trike and the battery is dead? Make the dealer come to your home to replace the battery.
Dealer is 90 miles away.
I'm not trying to stick it anyone. Things happen they are a large dealer and have lots going on.
I trust they will make it right and I can help them out by doing some of hassle. There sales pitch before sale was they would take care of any troubles that made me unhappy. Well they get their chance to prove it tomorrow.
If you got a new bike delivered to your home you wouldn't want to start it? Not to mention its a lot easier to get it out the trailer and In the Garage with it running.
Really wanted to hear how loud it was or wasn't .
Delivery guy started it to load it in trailer same day.
But was real dead when it arrived.
I suspect battery wasn't charged since it was built on October 10th.
Been sitting and in a ware house for couple months...sat in trailer for 1/2 day in real cold temps...started and moved and that's about it. Only has 4 miles on it.
If they will give me new battery I'll go get it. But I wonder if this one froze with low or no charge.
I'll see what they say tomorrow. I have confidence they will replace it.
Thanks
Dealer probably jumped to get it in the trailer and didn't let it run long enough to charge it. Or a cell is bad. Hard to believe your nearest dealer is 90 miles away. If the battery doesn't charge with the tender seems reasonable that they would deliver a new one to you, especially with them being 90 miles away.
At the back of your owner's manual there are wallet cards with the information.
Turn ignition switch to IGN
Before the security lamp goes out, turn the ignition switch to OFF
Press both turn signal switches. Both turn signals flash at once.
Seems they would know about travel mode?
They deliver bikes often I would think.
90 miles away is where I bought it not closest.
Best deal by far...so 90 miles wasn't a big deal.
I agree if I'm reasonable they will make it right and we are all happy.
They be closed on Mondays
So they have an email sitting there explaining the problem.
Thanks for inputs seems we all handle these things with different approaches.
Hap
It takes a pretty long time to charge up a fully discharged Harley battery. I left my ignition on one time and it took a good 8 hours to charge mine with a real 6 amp charger. I doubt you will be able to fully charge it on a tender no matter how long you leave it hooked up, but certainly it would be a couple of days.
Give the dealer the chance to correct the problem. Going in guns a blazing usually get the other guy's back up and he has no other option but to shoot back. I work in sale and the customers that come to me with a problem (weather its mine or the companies fault or just a misunderstanding) and are calm and allow me to hear what the problem is get my best attention and greatest respect. They also become the ones I go way out of my way for every chance I get and become my best customers. I’m sure they will do whatever it takes to set things right.
So it was dead when they delivered it? There's a big thanks for your business. Have 'em pick it up and do it right.
BINGO!!!!!
A battery tender is designed to correctly an safely maintain a fully charged battery, NOT to charge a battery.
Leave the tender connected anytime that you're not riding your bike daily.
