The fee seems reasonable for the work. The result was that you now have a very good running bike which you did not have when it went in.

I think the #45 pilot jet is about right. The #185 does not seem too large. Check the J&P catalog as they sell main jets for about $2.98. Get one at 170 or a little more. It only takes a few minutes to install it.

Or even get three or four sizes from about 165, 170 and 175. It could become fun playing with them. Just don't go too lean.

Rest of you guys a dyno isn't the end all everybody thinks it is and talk about overpaying for something ................

I have been studying the whole carb thing since my old butterfly carb gave up the ghost on my 1985 evoand I stuck a cv on there .I have an 88 xl 1200 needle and 165 main to go in my span new carb that came off a twin cam when a mikuni easy carb was fitted from day one . it already got the 45 pilot . I got a k and n filter the mufflers are kinda open but not fully its still got the balance pipe and all . im going to drill out the mixture screw cap and set it at 2 1/2 turns . then im going to see how it runs and check my front plug colours .

oh yeah and drill my slide out 7/64 . it cost me $20 for the needle and main jet . sounds better to me than giving some one big big money to make my bike thirsty for me . I don't drag race it I just nurse it along at about 50/55 mph and I just want it not to be running too lean is all . it already pulls nice and smooth but its down on power from before a tad .

how do the different stages of tune go . stage 1 = a nice bit of money . stage 2 = a good bit of money . stage 3 = a **** load of money . is it ?

Can't speak for Twisted, but these carbs are super easy to work on & not hard to tune.

All I did for my carb was drop in the XL needle & adjusted the idle mixture screw. Didn't drill the slide, didn't lighten the spring, nothing. The needle's around $10, after shipping.

Got 47mpg, out riding today.

You have background with carbs go the route your leaning to with the kit & your old jets never hurts to have that stuff and with that big a drop in mileage safe bet is the mains overjetted . Next thing I'll suggest is Youtube , there's some solid stuff to give you guide lines on how to's and tuning . Take's a knack to deal with carbs some guys will never have and lot more think they do but don't including some shops . Do changes in small steps and one thing at a time and test , you know your bike and how you want it running . Also I'd put the stock spring back in the ones in the kits seem a bit heavy to me

I hear you on the work part I'm getting less inclined daily , I used to have a thriving side business out of the shop here but the last year or so unless your a good friend in dire need don't bother me .

Nothing to get the guys just being a dick , he took a cheap shot at a comment I made in another post and I don't think he liked me pointing the rather obvious error he made in not actually reading what I posted .

On the topic of your carb , I just remembered there is a rather well written with pictures step by step guide somebody posted in here a few years back in the tech sections that was spot on for the CV carbs but I don't have the link for it . Do a search and spend a little time looking it would be well worth it for you to find it.

Talked to my Indy and he wants me to bring the bike back in so he can do a true fuel mileage test because what he did to the carb couldn't possibly have changed the mileage that much. I find that interesting because one day I'm getting 40 and after the carb work 32 -34 hmmmmmmm?
