yrs ago we used to ride at hi-way speed, shut the throttle down and turn her off..

then pull the plugs and see if they were too rich or lean.. then up or down the jet if needed...

After talking to yost on the phone he said unless I misunderstood , that putting the e clip up on the needle would richen and moving it lower on the needle would lean it. That seems backwards to me , up on the needle would put it deeper into the needle jet ,right? That seems to me it would let less fuel thru . Any one know ?

This worked for me in the past. Get it warmed up take the filter off. Rev it up and hold it there then choke it off with your hand till it almost dies out keep the butterfly open and remove your hand till it recovers then do it again a few times and pull the choke on and off while it's being choked by hand sometimes it will clear out things you cant get to any other way. Its the poor boy way but can work and don't cost you anything to try.

Ok here's where I'm at now. 185 main 45 slow n8ea needle with 2 #4 washers under it. It did have a n4nn needle which came out of 2004 883 sportster. The n8ea should be original stock needle. What y'all think is 185 main gonna be too lean?
