Default Tool Bag Contents List

I don't know if this has been done but I think it is a good Idea. I am a big believer in being prepared when it comes to a lot of things. I always have a full level 1 or level 2 first aid kit that I made myself everywhere I go and I stock up on other things (that i won't mention) that I think are necessary for my family to survive in bad situations.

I think it would be nice to start a thread (possibly a sticky) of the things that each of use carry in our tool bags on our bikes. I know that specific wrench sizes may vary a little but hearing what others have on their bikes at all times would be helpfull. not only will it help others to better their own bags/boxes but you may get ideas to improve yours too.

I just started mine yesterday and i am still adding/improving it but here is my tool bag off the top of my head.

small flat head driver
large flat head driver
small philips driver
large philips driver
all the needed allen wrenches for my bike
small vice grips
medium crescent wrench ( 8" i think)
spark plug wrench
13mm and 14 mm wrench for removing my seat ( battery underneath seat )
Leatherman juice milti-tool with pliers
5 conventional hose clamps
4 large zip ties
4 medium zip ties
4 small zip ties
2 new spark plugs
2 used spark plugs
teflon tape
550 cord (about 10 feet )
Charmin To Go roll (you never know)
small bottle of oil (about 4oz)
electrical tape
blue lock tight
side cutters

things I still want to add:

extra fuses
more standard sized wrenches
2 Fix A Flat co2 cartridges for tires

of corse my tool bag is always subject to change.

WHAT IS IN YOUR BIKES TOOL BAG?

It's been done but at this rate if all we did was bring up old threads there would not be a need to ever start a new one..

I'm starting to build mine. Spark plugs, a tire repair kit with Co2 inflator, wrenches to get my seat off, fuses, I've got a star multi size wrench, and these days it seems a battery for the key fob is a must. Yes I can call for a tow but if in a spot with no coverage or a place that could take hours, simple tools are a must.

I love these threads. Just got back from checking my tool kit and WOW - I couldn't believe all the stuff! Years of collecting, shrinking down, adding as bikes change, whatever. Here's my list - and though I won't mention sizes of sockets, etc, I am only carrying the needed ones, not full sets.

Soft straps
Dyna Plug kit
12V Air Compressor and the Harley air hose extension
Open and box wrenches
Spark plugs, gapping tool, sockets
Zip ties, elec wire, baling wire, elec tape, fuses, terminals, shrink wrap, wire crimp tool
Micro torch
Head mounted flashlight
Tire pressure gauge
Torx bits
Hex wrenches
Ratcheting screwdriver with bits
3/8 ratchet
Various 3/8 locking extensions
3/8 wobbly
Various 6 & 12 point sockets
3/8 breaker
Small box of various nuts, bolts, clamps
Multi-material scissors
Small file set
Razor knife
Air pump for shocks
Mechanics gloves, rubber gloves, shop rags, handi-wipes
Duct tape

A whole bunch of this stuff fits in those "bottom of the saddlebag" tool bags. The rest fits in a 5x5x13' tool bag.

Interesting. OP: my tool kit is similar to yours + the standard sized wrenches & torx wrenches. I'd be interested to see a list of items in your first aid kit.

PS: What do you use the hose clamps for?

the hose clamps are for fixing leaky fuel and oil lines if the existing clamp has failed. you can also do an emergency fix of a line with a hole in it. wrap it in electrical tape and then screw down a conventional hose clamp over it (not to tight, just enough). you would have to pinch the line with the vice grips above the leak before removing the existing hose clamp to stop the flow.

here is my old list for my Level 1 First Aid Kit. It has since been added to but its pretty close. this is the kit that I always have with me including on my bike. My wife has a Level one with her too. I really only use the Level 2 If I'm with more people than my level 1 could handle.

in my opinion the most import features of a good first aid kit is adequate blood stoppers/sponges, wound cleansing and coverage. get the wound under control until the professionals get there. Level 2 is a different story.

FYI i am no medical professional by any means.

suture kit and burn gel was added along with a few other things

Level 1 First Aid Kit

• 2 oz. Peroxide
• 2 oz. Betadine
• 1 oz. Blood Stopper

• 6 Splints
• 40 Alcohol Swabs
• 12 Butterfly Bandages

Most of the above plus wire, SS wire, glow stick, 10 in 1 screw driver with Torx bits also matches, and now a electrical ground lug...for broken throttle cables!

Don't forget the spare jiffy stand spring. I carry the OEM kit, plug wrench and plug (gapped), leatherman, Tire plug kit with inflator and band-Aids. I also keep a small pair of jumper cables in the bag. I velcroed one of those HF LED work/flashlights in the lid of the tourpack. Now that I have a twin cam, I don't carry as much as I used to.
