no, there is a clear coat. you don't want to wax it because that will give it a glossy sheen, not because it'll hurt it.

Whether there is a clear coat or not, I'm sure you don't want to remove it to put on pinstripes. Just used windex on mine to clean area. My emblem has been on about 2 years now and no probs.

i wasn't suggesting to remove it. i was just saying that whatever you normally clean it with would probably be sufficient to prep for pinstriping.

Ditto. The finish seems to be porous/course enough to accept whatever you want to put on top of it.

Thanks guys for all your help. I will use windex to clean before he pin stripes. I will post some pics when finished.

I don't know why the Harley people don't know the paint better but they are wrong. It has a matte clear coat.

I'll dig up the pictures of where my clear coat was flaking if anyone wants to see.

Just did pin striping on my bike , although it's not a denim finish it is a stock HD paint , we used mineral spirits to clean surface it does not touch stock paint , just cleans it !

Had a 2010 Fatboy Lo that was Denim Black. Had a couple of different pin stripping's done to it. As far as I know the painter used the same cleaner on my bike as hie did all the other bikes he was working on. The pinstripes always looked great.

Looks good man. I'm thinking about painting mine denim black, always loved it.
