I wear chaps when ever I hit the highway. They keep the bugs off my pants, I can take them off and have clean pants when I make stops at restaurants.

I would stop at dealer to try them on to find your size. I followed all the sizing charts and ended up with one size too small. The ones I got were on sale but by the time I sent them back for the proper size I was back to full price.

I would also recommend pockets, deep pockets which are good if you forget to zip them up. I picked up a pair of FMC chaps with snap in liners. The liners are great for cold weather riding.

My crotch doesn't get cold, I also wear pants and the fairing and tank block the wind in that area.

Snapping that last, bottom, snap makes me feel like I just ran a marathon sometimes. Gotta lose some belly one of these days.

I normally only wear them when the temps are below 60 degrees. There are times though, where I wish I had them on in warm weather too. Rocks, and some bugs, hurt like hell bouncing off the shin bone.

I wear my chaps year-round for the safety factor. With the wind from riding my legs never get too warm to the point I wish I didn't put them on.
But I tell ya, flannel-lined jeans + lined leather chaps = very insulated for cold weather riding.

Be sure to buy "lined" chaps. My first pair were unlined because they were cheaper, big mistake.

Yes...pockets. I really regret not getting mine with pockets because trying to get into my jean pockets is 99% impossible. I had to undo the belt on mine today, just to get the house keys.
